Bank Holiday Week!
Well, that was a lovely Bank Holiday weekend with beautiful weather wasn’t it! We’ve met some delightful guests too and plenty to reassure us of why we want to be in the hospitality trade – what a privilege to meet such lovely and appreciative people. And no, I am not being facetious either – I really mean it! Thank you for staying with us and we look forward to seeing you again!
Our new chef manager Teejay is settling-in well and we have sampled his cuisine and it is very good. So we are taking evening bookings and welcome you to come and sample his wares! Oh, we are looking forward to a busy Whit week at the end of May (almost fully booked-up on the cottages and some Hotel space already, so don’t delay) but meantime, it is still low season rates, beautiful weather with lovely surroundings and colours (the garden is looking great and the azaleas are just bursting into flower now) so come and abuse our generosity!
Don’t forget – we are open for cream teas and await your reservation to come and stay with us! Come and see the emus as well – or Albert and Ebony – our pea fowl in all their splendour! And oh yes, our order (at no expense spared…) for fibre optic Wifi has been placed so at some point in the next few months we’ll have amongst the fastest broadband speeds anywhere in North Devon! I still marvel that you can have no signal in nearby top seaside villages – and even now, that is something people don’t check when they take their holidays despite plenty of people needing either to update regularly for work purposes or to entertain the children…. We have good mobile and internet availability already so what we have coming will be just wow - and it is FREE!!!! (As is our parking, Swimming Pool, Gym, Games room with free Pool etc and we’ll kick-start the sauna for you at our cost too).
Well, you may remember… late one Friday afternoon I mentioned that the hygiene inspector called to check the kitchens etc…. how nice to receive a Five Star pass and in some respects, there is ‘always’ something to find that might need rectifying, some log not maintained to the inspector’s satisfaction, something minor not stored in the right place or a label not being legible or whatever so well done our team and well done us for the award which proves we try really hard to make sure all the basics are always kept as they should be!
Ilfracombe in Bloom!
Thank you Ilfracombe In Bloom for the commendation again this year! In 2018, we plan to do even better and with our team and Steve and Barry working hard both to maintain the gardens as well as to improve and extend them, watch this space! Our cherry blossom has been delightful this year and the primroses – wow! We have extended our tree planting too – some Douglas Fir in the wood, more poplars and Felix gave me two Sequoia for my birthday where I have to put them somewhere good. When I am 300 they’ll look masterful! He saw these Giant Redwood in California and was taken by them so let’s trust they’ll do well! I have added some Ginkgo Biloba as well – a prehistoric tree! I have also added six Norway Maple to the roadside hedge and these should give some beautiful colour in the autumn.
Nature – the bird song has been beautiful again this year so far and more swallows managed the return trip than seemed the case last year. They are busy already and their cheeping and chirping as they sweep gracefully across the skies here is a delight. As I type this, a beautiful goldcrest has been collecting spiders’ webs from the window panes right outside my Office to make its nest in the nearby fir tree – Britain’s’ smallest bird and seeing it up so close reminds me of that!
Food in Ilfracombe
Well I have been saying it for a long time but here is the official reason to want to come and stay with us! Of course, you must sample our great Restaurant offering too but look at this:- Read Devon Life's article 'Why Michelin think Devon food haven is giving Padstow a run for its money.'
