For energy efficiency (both for cost and environmental reasons), please note that the Swimming Pool will be closed after October Half-Term until the week before Easter 2012 during our low season.

However, if larger accommodation bookings for guests staying in either our Hotel or self-catering units during this period specifically request these facilities to be made available during their stay, we shall be pleased to consider this upon request.

We are really proud to announce that we are the first and only Three Star Hotel and Restaurant in the immediate Ilfracombe area! On 30 June, we had our 'mystery visitor' following a very lengthy process of improvement and application to secure a star rating with 'VisitBritain'. We passed the test and are the first new North Devon Three Star-rated Hotel to receive that accolade for a pretty long time and will be the first and only Three Star Hotel in the immediate Ilfracombe postal area!

Amongst the Inspector's comments he noted that "Tyme Restaurant had a very nice atmosphere and was homely." He enjoyed his evening meal and thought "The Menu was well presented and with good choices and there was a good choice of wines and the waitress knew them." He thought the breakfast had "very good local produce". His Room was "well-equipped and with everything he expected to find there." He said he enjoyed his stay.

In the face of austerity and a very hard time for the hotel and hospitality trade generally, we have invested significantly, as well as in time and effort in being able to satisfy the most rigorous criteria to be considered for the award. The staff have been working really hard to satisfy every last necessity to demonstrate success across the board at this level, to join the select range of three and four star hotels and restaurants in North Devon.

The list of requirements to achieve Three Stars is especially onerous and a 'pass' has to be achieved across all sections. The present starring system itself is very confusing as it perceives that a 'Five Star Guest house' is somehow higher than a Two Star Hotel but really that equates to a much lower category in terms of the overall service which has to be provided. Trimstone had no starring at all so to achieve Three Stars for itself and Tyme Restaurant on first application is no mean feat at all! We know there's lots more to do and we continue, hard at work in improving the property and the service. We aren't perfect but then, we don't want to be so pristine either but instead to have that Place where you feel you can come and relax and enjoy yourself too and with good food.
